Syniverse has been on the move in China this year, and last month I had the honor to help us mark a new chapter in our commitment in this crucial market. On Nov. 10, we inaugurated a new office in Beijing that brings together more than 100 colleagues and significantly strengthens our services in Greater China as well as the Asia Pacific region.

Syniverse has had a presence in the Asia Pacific market for over a decade, and through our acquisition of Aicent last year, we have significantly expanded our footprint here. Our customer base now includes more than 300 companies across 50 countries, and our team consists of over 500 professionals with nearly 200 employees in Greater China alone.

As you can see in the photos here, a number of these professionals were present for the opening along with several customers and members of the media for what was a day of celebration. In addition, several senior Syniverse leaders from around the world attended, including Alfred de Cárdenas, President of Global Sales and Service, and Chief Sales Officer, and Leigh Hennen, Chief Human Resources Officer.

Our new office provides several key benefits. Located in the XiCheng District, we’re now only about three kilometers (approximately two miles) from several of our biggest customers. This proximity will allow us to communicate more easily and deliver a higher level of service in this important business district. What’s more, the new location brings together employees from Syniverse’s acquisition of Aicent, who became a part of Syniverse in 2014. As a result, we’re able to better consolidate our service offerings. Finally, with our office move, we realigned our operations to give our teams here and across Asia Pacific greater autonomy to provide more localized service.

These benefits will better position us for an exciting opportunity here in the Asia Pacific region in the next few years. It already has the two largest mobile markets in the world, China and India; includes 49 percent of the world’s unique subscribers and 51 percent of the world’s mobile connections; and is forecast to add 600 million new subscribers by 2020, according to GSMA Intelligence. On top of this, South Korea and Japan lead the world in terms of LTE adoption while China is already the world’s largest LTE market in terms of connections.
