What’s your title and role at Syniverse?
I’m Senior Product Manager in the Service Provider Group, and I support Syniverse’s RoamMonitor and Mobile Policy Control Center (formerly Roaming Control Center) products.
How long have you been at Syniverse?
I’ve been here six years. I started as Product Manager and was assigned to the RoamMonitor team shortly after arriving. I had the unique opportunity to join the team on the ground floor and have seen RoamMonitor grow exponentially. Our business is now over 30 times as much as it was when we first launched the product in 2010.
What are you working on this month?
My focus this month is the delivery of two projects for one of our major customers. We’re combining our RoamMonitor resources with our new Mobile Policy Control Center platforms and features to enable the customer to expand its roaming offering plans. This will enable the customer to provide data-rate-limiting services for subscribers who exceed specific thresholds while roaming in selected countries. More specifically, for our Mobile Policy Control Center product, we are also about to go live with another project for this customer that will enable the customer to provide its subscribers with the capability to accept certain charges or select a new plan from their account portal. For our RoamMonitor product, we’ve just completed a couple of new customer implementations and set up RoamMonitor according to these customers’ individual requirements, and we’re now working on a third implementation.
What’s one of the most valuable insights you’ve gained during your career in mobile?
Although technology continues to evolve rapidly and staying up with the latest advancements is critical to succeeding in the mobile industry, the most important key to success is to always put customers first. It’s not about using the latest technology to make our solutions work, it’s about using the right technology that will allow each customer to be successful according to that customer’s unique needs.
What’s been your best moment at Syniverse?
As we’ve refined RoamMonitor over the years, we’ve had many rewarding moments, especially after completing projects for big customers after months of hard work by the team. A perfect example of this is one of our most recent projects. After several months of joint work between the RoamMonitor and the Mobile Policy Control Center teams, we successfully deployed our first integrated solution for monitoring and policy enforcement for a big Tier 1 operator in the U.S.
What’s the best thing about working at Syniverse?
The opportunity to work daily with a multitalented and multicultural team that constantly challenges me to learn.
Tell us about your mobile lifestyle. What kind of phone do you use?
I use a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
What’s your favorite app or tool on your phone, and why?
I like to travel with my wife every time we have the chance. For these trips, I’ve become a big fan of Uber for transportation and TripAdvisor for getting tips on the place we’re visiting.
What’s the longest you’ve gone without using your phone recently?
Probably about nine hours, when I flew from Miami to my hometown in Montevideo, Uruguay.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy almost any kind of outdoor activity, including running, biking, playing soccer, golf or just relaxing on the sunny beaches in the Tampa Bay area. This month, I’m also enjoying watching the Olympic Games in Rio.
